A personal project combining my passion for design and music. I will be sharing original single cover art for songs by artists I enjoy and representing the new artwork in familiar formats. My purpose is to highlight a (non-actual-single) track by each that has flown under the radar. This project means a lot to me, and I hope it offers value for anyone it reaches!

Anywhere by Anderson .Paak (@anderson._paak) from the album Oxnard, 2018 • produced by Pounds • featuring Snoop Dogg (@snoopdogg) and The Last Artful, Dodgr (@thelastartful) • hip-hop, g-funk, R&B
•
Here, Anderson .Paak fills one song with as much 90s g-funk & rnb appreciation that he can; from the timeless featured guest to the interpolated vocals from the era. Lyrically, he highlights being down for your partner through thick and thin.

I'm pleased to say that I've accepted a new publishing design position this month. This passion project has proven to be a great interview topic, allowing me to speak genuinely about my design work and interests! I've been in a rough design role for some time leading up to this, so I couldn't be more thrilled to move up in my career. (This project will continue on, of course!)

Sound of Rain by Solange (@saintrecords) from the album When I Get Home, 2019 • produced by Pharrell (@pharrell), Solange, and Key • R&B, neo-soul
•
A stunning cut from her humble 2019 record, Solange brings self-confidence and a fearless attitude to the table here.
•
I owe much of my recent inspiration to @andyjpizza and his Creative Pep Talk podcast - highly recommended to any creatives out there looking for genuine encouragement, insight, and entertainment! Thanks Andy.

Georgia by Kevin Abstract (@kevinabstract) from the album Arizona Baby, 2019 • produced by Kevin Abstract, Romil Hemnani (@romilhemnani) & Jack Antonoff (@jackantonoff) • hip-hop, alternative
•
This track details the feelings of missing home while away and missing adolescence while growing older. Impressively, Kevin does nearly all of the vocals himself, and really nails the "Andre 3K & Big Boi singing at the same time" thing a few times during the hook, while interpolating Ray Charles. The varied vocal stylings and sound of the instrumental allows this song to have appeal in nearly any genre.

I've created a YouTube playlist featuring all the songs I'm covering in this project. Listen along while you view these works on my portfolio! The playlist is linked in the description of this project.

Dans Un Moment D'errance by The Midnight Hour aka Ali Shaheed Muhammad & Adrian Younge (@alishaheed & @adrianyounge) from the album The Midnight Hour, 2018 • produced by The Midnight Hour • featuring Laetitia Sadier, Questlove, & Keyon Harrold • jazz, funk, soul
•
This is a lively instrumental jazz cut from two greats late in their career, performing as The Midnight Hour. This album really flew under my radar in 2018 and I honestly think the whole album is underappreciated, this is just one of my favorite tracks from it.
•
Thanks to my friends and followers who have already expressed their interest & gratitude to me about this passion project. It has been very validating to learn that some of you have discovered a new song or artist because of this, since this is one of my main goals tied to the project!

SIRENS | Z1RENZ by Denzel Curry (@denzelcurryph) from the album TA13OO, 2018 • produced by DJ Dahi (@djdahi) & Billie Eilish (@billieeilish) • featuring J.I.D (@jidsv), background vocals by Billie Eilish • hip-hop
•
This track boasts a true powerhouse of talent. I'm a big fan of all 4 of the minds involved here, and believe Denzel's first verse and JID's verse to be some of the very best rap verses of 2018. The narrative covers the criminal system, police brutality, terrorism, and more injustices in the U.S.

Sometimes it's worth it to create your own lane. It's easy to think "if someone would just give me this opportunity, I would crush it." Create the chance for yourself and show them. No one will give you a job doing something you've never done. The good news is you can do it on your own!

If I'd Known by Kero Kero Bonito (@kerokerobonito) from the album Time 'n' Place, 2018 • produced by Kero Kero Bonito • dream pop, indie rock
•
This song considers the duality in life, the realization that alternate realities exist and unlimited possibilities can occur. It features a toe-tappin beat and some infectious vocals.
•
Something that has fueled my recent creativity is starting by hand! I've been an illustrator and doodler all my life, but once I received my formal education in design, I found myself starting projects from scratch in a digital space. It took me awhile to realize this change in practice. Lately, I've rediscovered that I do best when starting with pen and pad. (In this piece, I drew the eyes by hand and then cleaned them up digitally. To me, including hand-done elements in my work brings a level of authenticity, and starting by hand generally helps my creativity.)

I Never Dream by Against All Logic aka Nicolás Jaar (@nicolasjaar) from the album 2012-2017, 2018 • produced by Nicolas Jaar • house, experimental
•
This track has a surreal vibe to it - simultaneously hopeful and eerie. I see the song and this artwork as a representation of the feeling between being awake and being immersed in a dream.
•
I'm determined to improve my workflow as a designer. Like many, I have a tendency in my creative work to complete the majority of a project efficiently, and then spend a seemingly endless amount of time on the final steps, by fine-tuning and second-guessing my decisions. It's easy to become self-conscious about your work the longer you spend on it. Every situation is different, but for the sake of this project: 5 pieces of great work > 1 piece of incredible work. Producing a piece from start to finish, and then on to the next.

Real Life Shit by Buddy (@buddy) from the album Harlan & Alondra, 2018 • produced by Brody Brown of 1500ornothin (@1500ornothin) and Terrace Martin (@terracemartin) • background vocals by Rose Gold (@muvagoldblood) • hip-hop, g-funk
•
This song has stuck with me heavy. It speaks on some things in life getting better, while new problems emerge and other complications develop.
•
My goal here is to create and share work that I'm passionate about. I currently work as a designer in advertising for a publishing company. This role started great, but has become much less ideal over time. I'm proud of the design work I've done with them... but I'm not invested in it. There's something exhausting about doing work you love for a purpose that means little to you. This passion project is allowing me to get stoked about my work and incorporate more of my personality into it. I already planned for this piece to be the first upload a while back, but since then... I was hit with some real life shit. So this piece resonates with me even more now.

OBJECTIVE
Using a specific monologue from The News Room, design a series of three typographic posters according to the criteria below:
"Part A. Type As Text: Typeset the monologue so that is readable and accessible.
Part B. Type As Image: The meaning of the text should be evident through how the type looks rather than what it says.
Part C. Type as Text + Image: Combine the methods used in parts A and B to produce a solution that is visually expressive as well as readable."
The monologue represented on these posters comes from a scene in The Newsroom, and I was fascinated by the varying levels of emotion shown by Jeff Daniels. Red and black assist the aggressive first section of the monologue, while white and gray represent the hopeful mood of the second section. These colors and the organization of the two monologue sections in each composition unify the three posters as a series.
The monologue can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrXBZAChtYw

Through cross-campus collaboration, the Husky Leadership Initiative facilitates, deepens and expands student leadership education opportunities at the UW both in and outside the classroom. HLI cultivates the knowledge, skills and attitudes students need to be effective change agents and contributing members in their communities.
Various marketing projects I completed for HLI as the Design & Print Production Student Coordinator. These include print/web collateral and iconography designed and produced for HLI marketing and communications purposes.
HUSKY SPRING TRAINING
The Husky Spring Training Leadership Conference is a one-day conference designed for UW students to develop their leadership skills through a series of workshops and sessions with leaders from the UW and community at large.
LEADERSHIP FIRESIDES
Leadership Firesides offer ongoing opportunities for students to engage in meaningful dialogue with a diverse range of civic, corporate and campus leaders in an informal setting. These leaders share their personal journeys and perspectives on leadership and become momentary mentors for students attending the event.
ICONOGRAPHY
Iconography I produced to be used across HLI's visual identity. The icons represent opportunities and benefits to gain from taking part in an HLI program.
